Over the last decade, if you've been listening to rock and pop music on the radio or catching your favorite artists on MTV and YouTube, you have heard the work of James Michael. As a multi-platinum producer, songwriter, mixer and recording artist, he consistently delivers chart topping projects across many genres for a diverse group of artists including Papa Roach, Sixx:AM, Mötley Crüe, Jessie James, Alanis Morissette, Hilary Duff, Saliva, Scorpions, Meat Loaf, Halestorm, 12 Stones, among many others.
In addition to his successful producing and writing career, Michael is co-founder and lead singer of the rock band Sixx:AM, which garnered the No.1 rock track of 2008, "Life is Beautiful". Their debut album "The Heroin Diaries Soundtrack" stayed on the Billboard Top 200 Album chart for over 26 consecutive weeks, making it both a critical and commercial success.
James Michael co-wrote 4 songs and co-produced 6 tracks on Papa Roach’s album "Metamorphosis", including the single "Lifeline", a #1 track for 6 weeks at Active Rock and Top 5 track at Alternative Radio. "Metamorphosis" debuted at No.8 on the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart. James Michael produced, mixed and co-wrote Mötley Crüe's "Saints Of Los Angeles" album which debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart and The Cruefest DVD featuring Mötley Crüe, Buckcherry, Papa Roach, SIXX:AM and Trapt was mixed in stereo and 5.1 by James Michael and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top Music Videos Chart.
In 2011, James Michael is full steam ahead with new projects; wrapping up producing and mixing the new Sixx:AM album, coproducing and mixing the new album by HammerFall, writing songs for Madam Adam’s debut Roadrunner album, writing with Halestorm for their new album and much more.
Growing up in the Midwest, Michael alternately embraced and rebelled against formal musical training. He attended Columbia College, a fine arts school in Chicago, before heading west to Los Angeles where he worked various day jobs and played in bands at night. He did a short stint in a group called the Riverdogs, which had released albums for a major label and toured in Europe. After honing his craft and working to discern his true style, Michael released his debut solo record, Inhale, in 2000 - having written, performed, recorded and mixed the album entirely by himself.
From that experience of handling all of the creative aspects of his own record, he began co-writing and producing projects for other artists, signed a major publishing deal and developed a strong affinity for working across multiple genres. Clearly, James Michael has had success with many artists because he has been able to bridge the creative and commercial divide without ever sacrificing the music.
As a perfectionist producer and talented singer / multi-instrumentalist, he brings unique skills and sensibilities to all of his work as writer, producer and mixer - demanding of himself the highest quality while also pushing his clients to deliver their best work ever - James Michael continues to build an eclectic and commercially successful discography.
