I'm glad I waited! The time has come.... well, it looks like next month the second gen of the iPhone will be releasing..... and possibly at a lower price??? Not sure about that... we'll just cross our fingers!!!

More hints that a 3G iPhone is imminent

Most people seem pretty convinced that the 3G iPhone will be released next month. The going theory is that Jobs will announce the beast at his keynote address at WWDC in San Francisco on 09 June 2008 and that it will be shipping in quantity some time around the end of the month.
More hints that new iPhone hardware is imminent is surfacing every day. The most compelling evidence is that both the US and UK Apple online stores have stopped selling iPhones. Both countries online stores list both 8GB and 16GB iPhones as “Currently Unavailable.” Prices for New In Box (”NIB”) iPhones is climbing on eBay with prices for 8GB units going as much as US$500 – a US$100 premium.
If that wasn’t enough to convince you, developers have discovered an on/off switch for the 3G networking in the latest build of the iPhone 2.0 beta 5 software.
By default, the preference is hidden, but one developer (Chronic Productions) claims to have activated it. We have since confirmed that the text shown is indeed in the iPhone 2.0 Beta firmware, so the screenshot appears to be legitimate.
On top of that, AT&T Wireless is now listing a second model iPhone – called “iPhone Black” – in its device database, according to AppleInsider. There has been much speculation that the new 3G iPhone will ship with a black rear panel, presumably to differentiate it from the 1.0 model.
I just hope that the rumor of it costing US$199 would come true. Now that would be something.

The only thing they really need to do is make it available to all service providers, then I will be happy. I choose not to do business with AT&T, based on past experiences.

I'm with you Bret. Verizon has got them beat for coverage. I got an itouch and love it, but that means two things to carry. It's gettin' in the way of my slide rule !!!

way to bring down the party....
I like verizon. I have been with them for probably 6 years. great company. However, the iPhone has all the features i want in a phone. The 3g network capability will be great. For those of you who don't know what that means... basically, the network speed will be 4 times faster than what it is now when you are not connected to a "wi-fi" connection. I have many friends who have the service, and i have yet to hear bad things about it. Sure, there are some tweaks that need to be done, but i'm putting faith in apple and what they can do. Their history in products speaks for itself. : )

I will continue to wait until the iPhone is offered on other service providers. I gotta say, you know AT&T paid a TON of money to have the exclusive deal on the iphone.... a lot!
I'm a Sprint devotee currently, mainly b/c my family and close friends use it and I have free calling to Sprint customers. I bought a Palm Centro to get my psuedo-iphone fix. It's been awesome and the internet is quite fast on it, something I like to rub in to my friends with iphones. :) I was fortunate to get on a Sprint Employee Referral plan... yet another thing to keep me on Sprint. Can't beat the deals and AT&T can't compete there.
I too would be slightly interested in a iTouch, but all the things it does, my Palm does, except wifi and the better/bigger touch interface for Safari. I do not want another thing to carry around so I'll stick with my Centro.
