I have to give credit to Todd Robins for showing me this on acoustic guitar. Just take a 57 and tape your favorite small diaphragm condenser to the top of it (make sure the mic elements are lined up to eliminate phasiness). Either mix the two channels together or track them separately. I started trying this on lots of other sources like snare, guitar cabs, even vocals. Anyone else do this? Am I the LAST to figure this thing out?

You need to check out some Beatles recording sessions, new comer...

this can also be used as a noise canceling technique if you make the second (usually less quality) mic out of phase. Good in situations where there is heavy bleed, like cutting vocal and guitar together, piano vocal together, etc.

That's if you have the luxury and time to experiment...
If you like that, you might like M-S on acoustic..
Nice. I have a guitar vox session next week that I'll try some of this with. I've only tried ms stuff with Solo Brass and Reed before (sax and bone) Acoustic would probably be nice as well.
I learned this from Csaba Petocz and Joe Chiccarelli - - on snare - 57/451 10-20db pad - - then SPANK the 451 with 1176 all in - - oh sweet happiness.

works other places too - as you have found.
Did you do that for a Plumb session with Joe Porter at the Bennett House? With the Trident side car? I VAGUELY remember. I think I was running on caffeine at that point.
I believe I did - your memory is better than mine, I am sure.

LOL - now where did I leave my space bar...
