Can somebody tell me why so many engineers feel the need to bash whatever format they're not using? ProTools users hate Logic. Logic users hate ProTools. Nuendo (did I spell that right?) users despise all others. I personally don't care what the format as long as the end result pleases me. I've been a ProTools guys for the longest and I like it but it doesn't bother me to work with someone on another format. I personally believe there will be several formats in Heaven . . . just tired of feeling the need to defend my friend ProTools.

Amen brother! I'd do a session on a 1/2" Fostex 16 track if that's all I had. Bet I could make it sound decent too :) --- maybe? In the end, it's all just 1s and 0s. I waiting to move up to 2s and 3s.
I'd LOVE to have a 1/2" Fostex 16 track to use for tracking. Of course, it goes directly into the DAW right after, but heck, give me a tape machine for certain applications any o' day.
People are afraid of what they don't know. All systems have positives and negatives to them so if you're working in one and go to another you see all it's shortcomings first before you give it a real shot to work for you. This has gone on before DAW's came into play. Remember the battle between 24 track machines? Studer's and MCI's were the best sounding machines but aligning an MCI was a chore AND punching on them wasn't much better. The Otari's were decent machines but not the same quality but everyone seemed to have them. Regardless, that was me bashing right there so I'll stop.

Bottom line is as long as the end product is what you're looking for it doesn't matter what you record with or onto. Just make it sound good so it can converted into an MP3 so everyone can enjoy lower bandwidth.
HOLD THE PRESSES!!! you could punch on an MCI? ;)

Studer A800 MKII - with MkIII electronics (for slaving)....... NO other.

(ducking)
People bash ProToolsHD because they can't afford it. ProToolsHD users bash everything else cuz they're pissed off having spent so much money on ProTools, they can't imagine anything else being as good. Everyone of them used to make records on ADAT and thought they rocked the world - now they compete for the best sounding mp3...
you're a funny guy Toddro
todd- I *need* the names of 3 people who thot ADATS rocked the world..... :P

however, I agree with you on everything else...I think, lemme ask my neighbor, he is A&R......
you know, A&R started getting bashed the very first day this site went online. I hope one day he will feel welcomed here :) He'll just have to join and we'll all show him some love.
Michael, you nailed it. Why bash any format just because it's not what "you" use? Hmmm...It's ALL good.
I still maintain it's all about the song. You're right Michael; how does it sound in the end?Hey the Beatles used the old tube version of Protools back in the 60's... didn't they? Auto-tune was manipulated with punch cards back then I believe, and accelerator cards were fueled my leaded gasoline... ahhh the good 'ol days.
hhhhmmm - - leaded gasoline.....was there anything it couldn't do?
We all try to make everthing we have sound like tape at the end of the day. We've got our preferences but dont forget where you came from (ADATs)! It's the boys, not the toys...
