I'm curious who is doing a lot of recording collaboration with players or producers in other cities, states, countries? I know we have lots of talent here and people from all over the world come here for it. I'm not just talking about sending music tracks out but also bringing music tracks in.
For instance, I have a friend in India who offered to have his studio players do overdubs (authentic Indians on authentic instruments) on a song we were recording here. Pretty cool.
So, show of hands? Any tips for finding talent or work outside of Nashville? Any pointers on what to do vs. what not to do, just as far as practical technical matters?
Ha! Yessir, I've heard the same thing myself :-) But since we're down the road in Huntsville (or "South Nashville", as we call it) that still qualifies as long distance. Any recommendations?
I am a songwriter who currently works with and writes for European Country Singers/Bands. (as well as here in Nashville) Many don't know that in Europe there is royalty paid to the writer for public performances. So acts are always hungry for original music they can get the rights to play live! (instead of the same old covers). I started doing this many years ago when I was living in Europe. And like anything built up a good reputation and word of mouth does your advertising for you. I know the publishing houses there and that helps. (I am with BMI here). Country is Huge in Germany, France, and Norway. (I actually flew to Norway to write an entire album for a band there). I don't charge anything- just collect royalties like any writer- In this case performance royalties. Plus they do all the recording over there in their studios at their expense- I am just the songwriter. I do some vocal coaching to get rid of the accents- all from my home/studio in Brentwood. I am writing for a Band in Germany this week - and a female in Paris just today. I speak German and some French so that helps- but they speak English there- And they do sing in English. 25% of the Global "country" market comes out of Europe. So look into it- at cant hurt! I actually need a couple of co writers if any pros out there are interested. Visit me at www.willybmusic.com
