Hey guys, I posted this discussion on the Studio musicians group. I'd love to hear everyone's opinion on this. Where do you like to track? Everyone at one time or another has been stuck in a position of looking for a place when your favourite is booked up. Where's your favorite room? Is it the gear? The space? The vibe? The console? The engineer? etc? Hit me with some knowledge...
16th Ave Sound is now owned by Michael Davis of Digital Audio Post. He has moved into the entire building and has quite the Meca for post going on. You should stop by, it's sweet!!
The Bennett House is still open to mix and overdub, but the old rooms to track are offices now. They have Protools HD with an SSL G
The Parlor is a nice quaint place. It now has a Control24 with HD3 and a good selection of outboard gear and the mic closet is slowly growing. It also has two of those small 8 channel "newage" Trident boards on the sides of the desk.
Ronnie Milsap's place has changed hands again after the financial debacle of Category 5 records. I believe Jimmy Nichols owns or co-owns it now. Supposedly to stay open for work!
Loud has moved into the old Masterfonics building and is working out of Studio 6 and the Mix Room. They managed to fit a 9000 in Studio 6 and put their Oxford in the Mix Room. Masterfonics Mastering is still going strong and busier than ever.
I'm biased but I'd say Emerald A was one of my favorite tracking places. Always got good things out of 16th Ave Sound as well. The Castle can be good if you can keep the gremlin's away.
