Yeah, I know there was already a discussion about this, I had to start another one, because the original discussion was closed before I got a chance to weigh in with one of my faves: the signature bass line on the Eagles' "One Of These Nights". Anyone else have one they didn't get to submit?

There are so many great bass lines in so many genres. I'm quite partial to Sting (esp his work in The Police) and Adam Clayton of U2. You guys have named a lot of the others. Plus all the Motown stuff is absolutely killer!!
Yes, Sting is a very tasteful player. Nothing showy, but always musically solid, holding up the bottom end in the most unobtrusive way. Great stuff.
I have many but here are a few of note for me personally!
1) Foghat Slow Ride Nick Jameson
2) One thing leads to another by The Fixx
3) Le Freak by Chic Bernard Edwards
4) Shining Star by Earth Wind and Fire Verdine White
In consideration of Sir Paul being in town tomorrow night,Mon 7/26/10, how about "Dear Prudence" from the White album?
Yes, indeed....and if you have "Don't Bother Me" from 1963 in your catalog,
give that a listen too. It's kinda buried in the mix, but pretty creative playing.
One other killer bass line that I just thought of - "Rio" by Duran Duran. Moving and busy, but just right.
Oh yeah, that bass line flies. Ahhh...the 80s....
Oh yeah, man..not to mention his cut of "Standin' On Shaky Ground".
Don't know if this was mentioned in the original, but, the bass part on "What A Fool Believes" is one of my all-time faves. Simple, sparse, yet so so effective.
That bassline was actually created by Don Felder...
Chuck Rainey's line on Aretha's "Until You Come Back To Me ..." makes me grin every time I listen. If you haven't heard it in a while, check it out.
I have that song in my library, but hadn't listened to it in a while. I just did, though, and you're right. He's right in the pocket all the way. Good stuff.
