Yeah, I know there was already a discussion about this, I had to start another one, because the original discussion was closed before I got a chance to weigh in with one of my faves: the signature bass line on the Eagles' "One Of These Nights". Anyone else have one they didn't get to submit?

Hey JR, Good picks, although McCartney's bass line gets kinda eaten alive by all the harpsichord in "Lucy", so you really have to hone in to even hear it. I thought of another one: although it's coupled with a matching guitar lick, for extra "beef", Chicago's "25 Or 6 To 4" bass lick is pretty identifiable. Yeah, I know...I'm going old school on that pick, but I've seen them live a couple times and that lick kills on stage.
you cant talk bass lines without thinking of Chuck Rainey on Steely Dan. pick one, any one. Peg was over played so I know we're sick of it, but if you go back and listen to Chucks technique its a work of art. I saw him at a clinic and he told the story of Fagen telling him "no popping" on the run through so he said he had to disguise what he was doing with his thumb. He said he lightened up and played soft but the funk is so strong its amazing. I guess Fagen wrote the part but Rainey executed the line masterfully.
The first bass line that really caught me up was Elvis' "Burning Love."
Oh yeah... Steely Dan still gets overplayed at my house.
Papa Was a Rolling Stone
What's going on is my fav
Little Ghetto Boy- Willie Weeks, the baddest bass player in the country
Without a doubt.....Willie is a monster.
Favorite Synth Bass - Chaka Kahn "We Can Work It Out" from 1981
Favorite Bass - Dixie Dregs "I'm Freaking Out" from the "Dregs of the Earth" album sometime in the late 70's.
