OK, I was a late bloomer to the Beatles. I'd say somewhere between 1986, 1987 (I was a product of '80's Hair Metal) I started getting into their music. Right about the time the first round of CD's came out, so I never got to experience them on vinyl..... I've been living with that version as "The Beatles", but today as I put on the Re-Master of "Abbey Road" Holy Shi*, I feel like I'm hearing this album for the first time.... There is stuff there that I've never heard before...... On "Come Together" you can hear the room on Ringo's kick drums. The richnees of the strings on " Something" BGVs on "Oh Darlin!" The strings on "Here Comes The Sun" And I thought Elliot Smith's version of "Because" on the "American Beauty" soundtrack was better...... I suggest that everybody check it out at least this re-Mastered album.....

I really want to hear the MONO versions, if anyone wants to share the love.......

(BTW: I don't work for the Michael Jackson estate) ;-)

You speak the truth.. I just picked up" Revolver" a few minutes ago. What an improvement over previous attempts.
We can trade on Monday.
By the way.. get that fourth grammy in the pic.
I put the boxed set on my Christmas list... do you think I can wait until then?
I have the stereo remasters and they are incredible. You are absolutely right Abbey Road. I had a road trip so I loaded them all in my cd changer and cranked it up. Giles Martin did an incredible job.

I also ordered the mono box but haven't received it yet. A friend does have it and has ripped them for me and I'm quite eager to hear them. I've had the Dr. Ebbet's bootleg mono versions for years and the sound of "his" stereo versions are on par with the current stereo remasters. I'm discovering things in the current ones that I never knew were there. It's kind of like when I heard the "Running on Empty" album in 5.1 for the first time.
I'll repost as often as I have to, to keep this "relevant" blog alive!!!!!!!! Come on, Real Music People.......
Have you read Geoff Emerick's book, Here, There and Everywhere: My Life Recording the Music of The Beatles?
Very interesting read. I read it cover to cover, back to back, with CDs out, listening to the songs he was writing about.
I know there are some differences of opinion between he and Ken Scott about how things went down, but still, what a little kid to be in that position!!!
Yeah, I have.... I'm bad about that. I like to listen and read at the same time......
OK Dammit!!!!!! I've been in the middle of the MONO remasters for a few days now..... WOW..... Now the early albums are better, but the context of Revolver and Sgt Peppers in mono are incredible...... No verb on the strings of Elenor Rigby, hmmmm the phasing on Lucy, the listenable horns on Good Morning.... These are the mixes that the Beatles and George Martin approved....... Worth the listen.......

BTW: I only posted this because Taylor and Kanye are not in the news right now so it won;t get lost.....

New guys who are not hip to the Beatles, get hip... Outside of Abbey Road, which is the best Beatles album, check out the mono remasters.... Music being performed..... EQ and compression going down, and you had to get it right, there were not many take two's back then.......... Making choices on the spot, not "give me several playlists" and I'll choose later...............
Really, people........... The Beatles re-masters are one of the most important re-mastered collections in history, and I can not get ANYBODY interested......... (tongue clicking) shame on NMP members........ One of the best selling acts of all time......... HMMMMMMMMMM...........
I was too busy discussing tech notes.
Busted ;-)
OK OK!

Yes.....I got the stereo box set. It sounds great! But....your gonna hate me for saying this. I'm probably the only one here that couldn't care less about how much better they sound. I've been wearing out Beatles albums since I was 11 years old. I used to listen to Sgt. Peppers on an old 8 Track stereo with headphones on....and was completely happy to do so. This is the ONLY band that I wasn't obsessed with the sonics growing up....to me it's ALWAYS been about the songs!

I think the coolest thing about this reissue is not the sound quality.....it's the fact that it has opened up this great music to yet another generation of new Beatles fans.
As a "starving student" the interest is there, but I haven't been able to put the financials together yet. Let's face it, it's not a cheap collection, and from what I have heard from people I've known for a long time, people whose opinions I trust, it should be expensive. That said as soon as I can get it, I'll have it. I've always liked 'some' Beatles music - read as about half of it - but I appreciate a lot more of it than that. Interested? Yep. Able to participate in the discussion beyond saying "I want that." - not so much. Yet.
