Selling Abbey Road is a pretty epic move for EMI. Maybe this act makes them desperate enough for cash to prove that Warner isn't interested in buying/merging with EMI. Or do you think the debt reduction might be something Warner wants done before they make a deal?
Its probably a little of both. Maybe they see where reality is headed for large studios and need to shore up their balance sheet for any deal that might happen.
They have an offer of $46 million from Andrew Lloyd Webber. They were asking $30 million. Overall, it will get new funding and they will keep it running. They could always turn it into a museum and probably make more money than it ever made as a studio. The Motown museum in Detroit is always packed.
