What do you do before going into the studio to be in good voice?

Going into the studio is almost always a pretty hefty expense. I know that whether I'm recording my own project or doing background vocals on someone else's, I want my voice to be in the best shape…Continue

Hey Kirk... I know what you mean about wanting to keep your lows. You would not want to only warm up your upper voice, for sure. However... if you do the exercises correctly, you might find that vocal freshness is assured. I'm more of an alto, but I find that if I warm up with correct form that I don't lose my lows, I just strengthen my range up and down. The best session altos can often sing higher than session sopranos.Limiting talking is voice rest... I used to not even want to give an interview before performance.

I rarely stretch my vocals before the concert.  I'm a baritone so I prefer it to be fresh.  I normally don't like to engage in conversation on the bus before singing.
