As this year is in full swing I was wondering how business is for everybody. My last year was down some from the previous year but I stayed above water. I seem to have several people that want to record but few are definitely booked. I find it best to say that I work three times as hard to get half the work and at a rate I had 15 years ago.

There are some posers who like to look like they've never been busier and most people aren't as honest about it as you are. I think they may be busy, but they aren't making a great amount of money. I have things booking in for the end of February and a couple of projects starting in June but the last four months have been the slowest I've ever seen, in all areas. I learned a long time ago that in order to survive and feed a large family, I would have to do many things, even unrelated to audio and music. It's just the way it is and always has been. Most years, audio work far outpaces my other endeavors. Not so for the last couple of years.
I think things will improve once we get past the November elections. Regardless of who wins, it will put an end to all the petty fear and setting on cash. In times past, the second term or the first year of a new term has usually been a pretty good period, financially. I don't think we are too far gone, as a country, yet. :)
