David, it sounds like you're trying to open your files by double-clicking on them in the Finder. Try opening DP first, then using "Open" in DP to open a file. If it's grayed out there, cancel, go to the Finder, select the file, then select "Get Info" from the "File" menu. Just over halfway down the Get Info window, you'll see "Open with" and a popup menu underneath. If DP isn't already in the menu, select "other…" then select DP. Close "Get Info" and try opening the file again. If that doesn't work, you'll need to get something like File Buddy to fix it.

A good while back I was saving all of my DP projects to an external hd. For some reason I unplugged the hd and hooked it up to my desktop pc to back up some data files. When I tried to open the DP files I got a big error message pop up. The last thing in the message says that it cannot execute binary file. Where the file name appears it says - Unix Executable file. I did some research and there is supposed to be some way to rename the files so that they will work. I called MOTU and they have no idea what I'm talking about. Does anyone know how to fix this?????

Yeah, I skipped 6. 5.13 was pretty good overall. Figured I better upgrade to 7 while it was still cheaper than a whole new program:-)

I use 5.13, am considering the upgrade. Afraid 7 might be the last I can use with my Power PC G 5.

Overdubbing today with my (knock on wood) still happy 828MkII, albeit with an Apogee Rosetta in front of it.
Guess I better see what DP 7.2 is all about. I finally got used to the new look and different menu locations.

Jeff- those computers came with 512K of memory- i was doing and album with Stephen Bray and Michael Verdict in LA and they got me in to Performer as opposed my Linn 9000 which was crashing quite a bit- they used it on the Madonna record they had just finished.

Michael introduced me to a guy at the Record Plant who would install ram for $800/mb up to 4mb- so i spent $3200 to upgrade my memory- it was like a total drug deal in the back room of the record plant as he put in the chips -- so funny to think about that today !!

I had performer in the late 80's and sent midi files back and forth on prodegy (sp) telephone modem on a Apple SE and 4 meg of RAM. I also used it on the Flecktone albums to store the midi information from Futureman and Howards' keyboard performance and locked them up..... I had FX designer too for designing and storing the PCM 70 verbs I used. I could recall the verbs for other sessions. And I still have that ol SE 30, and it still works.
2010 has made things so easy. YEAH!!!!

Love my DP. Been a MOTU user since Performer 1.21. Sure beats the Southworth Total Music/Jambox.... :)

I am in the process of becoming a MOTU dealer. Once that is official, I will start working on the User Group.

There you go Doug. Looks like there's enough to get started!! I hope it works out. I'm still in DP6 with one of the old 828's. The only problem I have with that 828 is that is has a loud hum. Years ago I sent the first one back because of it and they sent me a replacement. The replacement did the same thing.
