Hello everybody. I've been on NMP for a while but not very active. Thought I'd try to get a little more in the loop. Just joined this group. Look forward to meeting some of you!

Curious about finding a co-writer in the Nashville area. I write in the style of Sara Groves and Nichole Nordeman...love Caedman's Call, Norah Jones, Ginny Owens. Lots of classical, southern gospel, and jazz influences with a mixture of old hymns. Am I too much of an eclectic spazz to find a match in the songwriting world? Anyway, if there's a kindred spirit out there, let me know!

Anyone here in Beautiful Nashvegas write in the vien of Goldfrapp / Massive Attack?? Looking to collab with pro songwriter for Electronica / Pop material - Looking idealy for my Will Gregory, have great melody/lyric sensibility but I'm limited with Garage band loops, I love collaboration and want to take it to next level for live shows and recording - have pretty big fan base to market to from Cartoon series :-)

I do think the question was " simply midi sequencing] that I can run on an iMac G4 [800 Meg processor]"

James, did you hit the spot ! Logic 9 is Garage Band on a gallon testosterone HOWEVER, GarageBand does a great job !! It will keep you busy for a while !

Interesting perspective from Duane.

Tim, I think one possible answer your question is GarageBand. Because you are using older Mac you can get an earlier version of iLife software at

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0001ACK2K/tmo-20

it's about 20 bucks and that should get you through til you upgrade to whichever system you decide on.

For what it is worth, I bought my first Apple Computer ( II ) in 1983. I then got a a MAC - just came out . THEN I had to buy PCs because of the lack of apps. When I had my last Apple which was the latest around 1995, I had Pro-Tools - midi didn't work and crashed "a bit" . What I paid for pro-tools would have bought a really nice car. Gave-up - went PC with a maxed out Dell and had Nuendo - GREAT PRGRAM -- until -- a year ago - got a MACbook Pro - fully loaded with Apogee Duet and Rocstar extra HD. Got Logic 8 then updated to 9 the week it came out ! So - being an old fart who has been doing this a long time and I don't get "married to equipment" - something comes out better - old stuff GONE !! I can't advise you enough about getting the MAC and Logic 9 - in some ways tough to learn but what pro system isn't - GET VIDEO INSTRUCTIONS then quite simple. The ONLY reason Nashville still is invested with ProTools as can you imagine the expense of re doing the studio and PAYING your engineers to learn Logic 9 !! If I was a studio owner , I would not want to pay the expense ! Trust me A/B the systems if you can and Protools is behind Nuendo and definitely Logic 9. PLUS Logic has over 22,000 loops and sample. For you song writers - which I am, if I can't randomly put up to nice guitar or keyboard sample/riffs together on logic and try different combos for inspiration AND can't come up with SOMETHING , I go do my laundry !! LOL !! LOGIC 9 WILL give you incredible inspiration AND record the album ! NO - I do not work for Logic !! If something comes out better, I will drop it like a hot potato !
Old Fart,
Duane Hitchings
