Hey there studio people! Dave Pomeroy with a friendly reminder that there is a Local 257 Membership meeting this Thursday, March 20 at 6:30 pm at the Union Hall. This meeting is listed in the Local paper, so it is officially scheduled, even though it is not currently listed on the Local 257 website.
The main item on the Agenda is a 1% work dues increase on all AFM recording work, raising it to 4.5 %, which, if approved, would be a 30% increase over the current amount of 3.5%!! Live engagement work dues are not affected and remain at 3%.
Some of you may remember that this By Law change proposal was submitted by Billy Linneman for the last Local 257 Meeting on Dec. 6, 2007, when, after some discussion, it was tabled , as due to family concerns, Billy was not able to attend the meeting to explain his proposal to the membership. He will be at this meeting.
The 257 paper also mentions that "Officer Salaries" are to be considered as well, but there is no further information listed about that subject.
A quorum for a Local 257 meeting is 30. We have over 2700 members in our Local. Most Union meetings I have attended over the years have not had a quorum. This is usually due to people assuming that "someone else" will show up and ask the kind of questions that they would ask. Some of us will be working no doubt, but it would be great if those who are able to come will show up and demonstrate that we care about the future of OUR Union. Thanks for your time and consideration.
