Since 2002 I have been Music Director for two-time Grammy nominee Bettye Lavette, often opening the show at festival and concert venues throughout North and South America, Europe, Africa, Japan and Australia. The Lavette band has performed on the Late Show with David Letterman, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Late Night with Conan O’Brien, the Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson, and Austin City Limits.
When not touring with Ms. Lavette, I perform and record my own songs with a band and as solo act, and accompany my wife Whit Hill in her alt-folk-country band The Postcards. I've released one CD, "Willie Mae" under my own name and two with Whit, “We Are Here” and “Farsighted”. I also collaborate with friends, work as a freelance sideman and teach piano and guitar.
I've performed or recorded with Rock & Roll Hall of Famers Johnny Johnson and Wanda Jackson, Delbert McClinton, Lazy Lester, Marva Wright, T. Graham Brown, Detroit blues luminaries Johnnie Bassett, Alberta Adams and Sir Mack Rice, Luther Allison, Buddy Guy, Kermit Ruffins, Chris Casello, Harper, and rockabilly legend Sleepy LaBeef.
Greetings from Upper Dogpatch, Al, really good to hear from ya! Man, Bourbon Street is getting a new partner, and I believe the change will really be a welcome one. The previous owner almost sank his own ship. The holdup is waiting for the state to get off it's ass and process the @#$&% liquor licence. They, of course, could care less if the place remains closed for a lot longer than need be. Any day now. Meanwhile, doing a gig w/ Steve Cropper in Atlanta. This'll be cool. But no B-3 on the backline... boo!
Really Al, I'm delighted that you made it down to the alley on tuesday nite... what a cool, soulful contribution to the evening you made. For real, great playing and fabulous singing, nothing but the best. I can tell you that everybody there was lovin' it, too. It's a pleasure to know you, and I hope you feel welcome, and right at home at the hang. Tawk to ya later!
sounds great al...lets do some playin..would be great...pete

So close but so far out! :) The place I had that gig is no more. I miss it. I have a love-hate relationship with that kind of gig - the lamp gig I call it - where I function sometimes as nothing more than an animated part of the decor. But there are divine moments in them too. Kinda like life I guess.
Anyway - we'll all have to get together. My soon-to-be hubby is a bass player. We could form some weird double keyboard lotsa singing quartet...

Hi Al -
Welcome to Nashville! I met you a few years ago at Mercy Lounge when you were here with Bettye - GREAT show. Sorry I missed you at the shindig the other night. Would love to meet your wife and your mutt-weiler. (Love that!) Maybe we can play together sometime. Hope all is well for you!
