Most mix engineers have their own mix rooms these days. It's the only way to compete. That being said, I have my ideal mix room. Great monitoring, Harrison Series 12 console and all the outboard I need. The best part is that no one messes with my st…

I think the cream will still rise to the top. Studios have lost the advertising work, the demos and vanity projects that used to pay a lot of their bills. Still collaboration isn't dead. Studios need to be promoting recording with ensembles of music…

If it sounds like music when you are tracking, why would it be any different at mix? If it sounds bad when you are tracking, then someone didn't do their job.

We have figured out how to make studios cheaper. That's not a problem. The problem is that the studios are so small and private that it stifles collaboration.

I'm not sure I have any practical answers for that. I have some ideas on new business models for studios, but they all take money. If I had the money to do it, there is no way I would spend it on studios.

Interesting story on All Things Considered. I liked what they said about collaboration being the missing ingredient in modern recordings.

Hey Craig,

I just listened to the Bronze Radio Return record, and it's one the best sounding records I've heard in a long time. Great work.

I know that Dark Horse Recording has rooms available for lease. It's a bit of a drive from Nashville, but it's comfortable to work out of. I'm an intern there, and really enjoy the place. Check out the website www.darkhorserecording.com

Hey Craig-

I might have a mix room for you. It's called the Spank Factory, located in Brentwood. There is awesome gear and a great Protools rig. Give me a shout and I can tell you more about it. Later,

Welcome to Nashville, Craig, though I am sure you have been here for at least a year by now.

I wanted to let you know that I created a survey - an anonymous one - for men in the audio recording industry, and wanted to invite you to participate (if you feel so inclined).

It is for any/all MEN in the industry - a quick 10-question survey - for statistical and industry research.

If interested, cut and paste the following link into a browser window:
http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=wooLiff4odvhh4q9uT5arg_3d_3d

It is of the utmost importance that you be honest - brutally honest, if need be, when taking this survey - and remember, it is anonymous. Say was you think and feel!

Thanks for your participation and rock on!

Sincerely,
Jill Kares

P.S. Please feel free to pass this on to any male in the industry. The more that take this survey, the more data we have to work with.
