In stead of talking about myself in third person like I do on my website, I'll just tell you straight up what's goin on!
My name is Daniel Childs. I come from a family of famous musicians, as my dad, Andy Childs has released records on RCA and also as lead singer for the band Sixwire on Warner Brothers. My Grandfather, Cecil Blackwood was baritone singer for the world famous Blackwood Brothers Quartet winning nine Grammy awards and twenty-seven Dove awards over his years in Gospel music.
So, music has always been pretty natural to me, being raised around guys like that.
I got my start doing Worship leading for youth groups and FCA events throughout High School, and even wrote a song that was featured at my 2005 Graduation. I actually got the chance to play it live, which was a lot of fun.
After high school I immediately started working on music. I lead Worship for several youth events, camps and retreats, including a few Fellowship of Christian Cheerleaders events in Orlando, Florida and Nashville, Tennessee. I also got the chance to do youth stuff in El Paso, Texas, Ruidoso, New Mexico, North Port, Florida, New Braunfels, Texas and Linden, Tennessee.
In the Fall of 2005 I recorded an eight-song EP of my original Christian music which I sold at shows and events and also through my website, www.danielchilds.com. Sales were marginal, but I'm proud of the CD and it was a great effort.
Somewhere along the way I got into doing a lot of showcasing around Nashville. I have played most of the writers' venues over the years, including the Bluebird, the Listening Room Cafe, Puckett's, Lyrix, and Cafe Coco. I've also done the whole venue thing. I've played at the French Quarter, 12th and Porter, and many other venues around town.
In 2006 I got involved with Third Coast Music, and played on many of their artist showcases around Nashville, Franklin, and Spring Hill. I even co-hosted the Third Coast Radio Music Hour on Franklin's WAKM AM station several times, allowing me to showcase my music over the air.
In the Fall of '06 I started making the trip to lead Worship in Huntsville, Alabama on weekends at NorthStar Church. I did so consistently for over two years, and I still do so a couple times a month today.
In the Spring of 2008, I got a chance to try something new. I joined my uncle Mark Blackwood and his Gospel group, the Blackwood Gospel Quartet. I spent a couple Summer months singing baritone for the group, but then stopped in the Fall and took a Hiatus to try my hand at school. I did one semester at Nashville State Tech Community College studying music technology, but soon found that I would rather be out working in music than learning about working in music (no offense to those who are in school studying music... they have all my respect and admiration... I just have a short attention span).
I rejoined the Blackwood Gospel Quartet in January of 2009 and ended up being the full-time tenor singer. The experience helped me to shape my voice and taught me a lot about the Gospel music industry, which is knowledge I hopefully will always be able to use. I stayed with the quartet for six months and left in late July of 2009.
I am now involved in several different things. I am one of the Worship leaders at NorthStar Church in Huntsville Alabama. I also do Worship leading for a lot of youth events around the country.
I am currently working on a brand new CD of my original Christian music. The CD will be titled "Ocean", and is a contemporary Christian music album that I will release independently to internet and also sell at events.
I'm also working on a few other projects such as forming a Christian music media company, and also starting a Southern Gospel music vocal trio.
I am available for live appearances either leading Worship, showcasing my original music, playing covers, or filling in on guitar (acoustic or electric, any musical style) or filling in on vocals (any musical style).
