And, I am happy to be here on NMP meeting some new friends, and finding some old and Very Cool friends I haven't talked to in a good while.

This is my early stage of a lifelong overview of a drumming tapestry that I created with the help of my music friends. It has been a great ride, and still is.
In the beginning, I knew right off the bat what instrument I wanted to play, and that was the drums, and I must have been 13 years old. I played the guitar and harp for a short time and I thought that was cool, until one day I heard the Ventures were playing on the Lawrence Welk show. Hey man, to see those cats play Pipeline and Walk Don't Run...I was floored. My whole passion became Rock'n'Roll, drums, guitars and surfing. Soon after, I got my first Slingerland Drum kit. A friend of my older brother loaned me his Red Sparkle Slingerland Kit for about a year. Living in a small Texas oil refinery town, Pampa, TX (pop.18,000) there were not many opportunities for inspiration. My band teacher wasn't hip to Rock ' n ' Roll and there were only two cats in my home town that where good enough to give me any kind of lesson, that was Gene Samples and Steve Hardin. But they got me started with a few pointers. I would listen to all the music I could get my hands own. My older brothers record collection , Little Richard, Buddy Holy, and Buddy Knox, whom I got to play some gigs with later on in my career. One of the best things about Pampa, Texas it was a good geographical location in the Panhandle to hear the Wolfman Jack Radio show being broadcast from Del Rio Texas. That's when I got turned on to all the cool R&B, soul, and the Blues. I remember that like yesterday, it was so cool. Yeah! I can say I am a self-taught player, with very few lessons. I practiced so much back then that I would make up my own groove, then I would hear that same groove on some hit song. It was so strange and had such a positive effect on me to know what I was playing was in tune with what others were producing elsewhere in the world. It gave me so much self confidence in my playing.Well, I played drums all through High School moved to Idaho Falls to play with a Group called Sledgehammer…what a name. Actually the group signed a deal with Atco Records in 1971. Our producer was the late great Norman Petty who produced Buddy Holly. We recorded half originals and half Buddy Holly songs. That was the deal, but we got to do our version of Buddy Holy songs. The LP was never released due to some internal problems with a band member. That master tape is somewhere in the vaults of the Norman Petty Studios in Clovis, New Mexico. To shorten this story, I moved back to Texas in 1974 played in some Horn bands. This was way before Chicago was hitting the charts. Listened to alot of soul music, played a lot of soul music. It was cool to have been a part of the early days of Rock n Soul. To sum it up, my drumming comes from a variety of influences, soul, British rock, American blues, early American rock, country, rock a billy and early surf music. Drummers who have inspired me. Danny Seraphine, Gene Krupa, Steve Gadd, Cozy Powel, Billy Cobban, Bernard Purdie, Jim Gordon, Ginger Baker, Buddy Miles, Jeff Porcaro, Bobby Columby, John Bonham, Elvin Jones, Jim Keltner, Nigel Olson , Levon Helm ,and RINGO STARR.

A FEW FUN HIGHLIGHTS (I would like to mention) :
