"I work primarily as a fill in drummer, and have had situations where another band has gotten a booking for twice the money after I've agreed to do a gig for someone.  In every single case, I always go with first booked, first served. …"

Musicians bailing out for a better gig a few days prior to a long standing/scheduled performance

Looking for a sanity check here.  Most live work I get is as a sideman.  If I tell you I'm gonna play a gig, I play it - even if a better offer comes along later I will honor my commitment.  However, a few times a year I will be asked to put a band together - usually for a private event.  Some are low paying (e.g. $75 for the gig) but no rehearsal required, good charts are provided well in advance, etc.  Some are higher paying (e.g. $300 in-town, and if a rehearsals are required its $50 &…See More
