Profile Information

Occupation:
Pianist/Keyboardist/Singer/Songwriter
About Me:
I took organ and piano lessons as a kid. I played various concerts and competitions, including selections from Handel's Messiah. My first band His Light played at Baptist colleges & churches from Ridgecrest, NC to Glorietta, NM. At age 19, I joined Music Teachers' National Association and taught piano lessons. At age 21, I played in and conducted a 30-piece orchestra at Christian Center in Shreveport. I worked as a radio announcer at KWKH, KLMB and KEPT.

TWENTY TWENTY

In 1982, I co-founded the band Twenty Twenty with Ron Collins, Gary McAnelly, Greg Herrington and Roscoe Meek and by 1985, we had recorded our first album, produced by Billy Smiley of White Heart, on Power Discs Records. Synth rock was at its peak and Twenty Twenty was at the right place at the right time. I wrote or co-wrote the material for the debut album. For the follow-up album, I co-wrote the singles For Heaven's Sake and Caught Up in Heaven, as well as Material Things. I also toured with Paul Smith of the Imperials, and others.

STUDIO

I have a ProTools Mix 24 system and I'm currently playing Yamaha S90es, Korg X50, Hammond XK-1 & Leslie, Vocoder.

PERFORMANCES

I play for the bands Syndicate of Soul, VonCoen, Strat5 & Twenty/20. Recent performances include the 2008 Ronald McDonald House of Memphis Fundraiser for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 2008 U.S. Army 101st Airborne Division Officers' Ball, 2008 Tennessee Public Health Association Annual Conference, 2008 Grand Opening Celebration of the Nissan Americas Corporate Headquarters (with John Hiatt headlining the event), 2007 Kentucky Blues & Barbeque Festival, 2009 Summer NAMM show at the Renaissance Hotel & Nashville Convention Center, 2009 Annual Healthways Convention. I also played some dates at The Factory in Franklin, Opryland Hotel and B.B.King's in Nashville.

WINNING 1ST PLACE AT THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME IN CLEVELAND, OHIO IN 2009

On Oct. 3, 2009, Strat5 won first place in FORTUNE Magazine's Ninth Annual Battle of the Corporate Bands presented by NAMM & the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland. We competed against seven other corporate bands from across the country selected in regional semi-final events in Los Angeles and Nashville. Tommy Lee of Motley Crüe, Jeff Carlisi of .38 Special, and Antoinette Follett of Making Music Magazine were the judges. Strat5 received a two-page feature story in the December, 2009 issue of Fortune Magazine and the January, 2010 issue of Making Music. We also performed live on the Tennessee Mornings Show on Fox 17.

EXIT/IN, 2009

Derek Davodowich, Guitarist for Twenty/20 from 1988-1990, joined me and some friends for a Twenty/20 performance to benefit the SPCA of Tennessee at the Exit/In in Nashville on September 24, 2009. It was a great night to play together and do some of our old songs and even share some new ones.

CHURCH

I am also the keyboardist/pianist at Agape Fellowship Church in Nashville.
