Anyone know of a great 'shredder' guitar teacher?

I have had a request from a friend in Canada who is a great rock player already, but wishes to get even better (got to love that). If anyone knows a pro shredder teacher that can up his game, please let me know. The band is 'One Soul Thrust'; listen to it here More

Child Stars: Are We Mentoring Heros or Narcissists?

Posted on September 25, 2013 at 6:27pm 2 Comments

It takes a village of parents, extended family, teachers, directors and counselors to grow a young artist into their full potential. I believe this 'village' should not only develop talent, but also mentor the child's maturation into a hero: a person who will make the world a better…

How to Deal with Mucous-Laden Vocal Cords

Posted on September 5, 2013 at 1:11pm 0 Comments

Most singers have experienced the feeling: You start vocalizing and notice it's ominously more difficult than usual. It doesn't feel like your vocal cords (folds) are inflamed, sore or swollen.. it just feels like something is gunking them up. You, my friend, most probably have too much mucous (commonly known as…

The Raspy Voice - Cool Sound or Vocal Suicide?

Posted on March 11, 2013 at 10:27am 0 Comments

The raspy voice has been a signature sound for some singers with legendary careers. Rod Stewart, Stevie Nicks, Bonny Tyler, Macy Gray and Brian Adams are among the artists that come to mind who have successfully used this sound. In many contemporary music genres, a degree of raspiness can add a cool, communicative factor to vocal…

Posted on January 23, 2013 at 12:29pm 0 Comments

Vocal vibrato can be likened to garlic... some songs/dishes call for more, some less. There are different types. Sometimes you want artichoke garlic, sometimes elephant garlic - sometimes you want faster wave vibrato, sometimes slower. Great cooks will tell you that sometimes you want to chop garlic, sometimes…

I've played piano for people taking voice lessons, but never had any myself. You can go to my page and listen to 'Beauty For Ashes'and 'Free To Love Again' to hear my voice. For me to improve would you recommend your 'Power, Path & Performance' first, or face to face voice lessons?

Hi Judy, I have been busy finishing up the construction of my personal studio. I would love for you to come by sometime when I get it done. I want to make sure I have a comfortable and efficient place for vocalists, and no one would know better than you. Hopefully I can get your "good recording" seal of approval :) Hope you are well and i always enjoy your blogs. You are continually teaching this old dog new tricks!

Judy, the paramedic thing has actually come in handy a time or two in the studio. Cant say that I remember any recording sessions breaking out on the scene of a medical emergency, though....I'd have had to run all the way back to the ambulance for my guitar..

Hi, Judy. Thank you for adding me. It's an honor to meet you!
