The raspy voice has been a signature sound for some singers with legendary careers. Rod Stewart, Stevie Nicks, Bonny Tyler, Macy Gray and Brian Adams are among the artists that come to mind who have successfully used this sound. In many contemporary music genres, a degree of raspiness can add a cool, communicative factor to vocal…

Vocal vibrato can be likened to garlic... some songs/dishes call for more, some less. There are different types. Sometimes you want artichoke garlic, sometimes elephant garlic - sometimes you want faster wave vibrato, sometimes slower. Great cooks will tell you that sometimes you want to chop garlic, sometimes…

I recently had a real-world refresher about how to get a voice that feels fried in shape for a long band rehearsal....because this time the voice was mine!
The year so far in Nashville is full of pollen and other allergens, even more than usual this year. My schedule has been slamming with vocal lessons, studio production, etc. The day of rehearsal, I gave several vocal lessons starting 9am, drove to the studio and did a few hours of vocal production, drove back, gave more vocal…

Naomi Webb said… I've played piano for people taking voice lessons, but never had any myself. You can go to my page and listen to 'Beauty For Ashes'and 'Free To Love Again' to hear my voice. For me to improve would you recommend your 'Power, Path & Performance' first, or face to face voice lessons?
David Daughrity said… Hi, Judy!!! Thanks so much for connecting. It was a pleasure helping Billy out. Drop a line anytime!!! :-)
Bret Teegarden said… Hi Judy, I have been busy finishing up the construction of my personal studio. I would love for you to come by sometime when I get it done. I want to make sure I have a comfortable and efficient place for vocalists, and no one would know better than you. Hopefully I can get your "good recording" seal of approval :) Hope you are well and i always enjoy your blogs. You are continually teaching this old dog new tricks!
Robert Xeno said… Yes Judy it was an excellent environment. After driving by it a 100 times since we moved here I was very happy to finally go in for some work. Heading back thursday looks like as well. I beleive we are connected on Grammy360 as well? SO happy to be in Nashville.
Nice to meet you too Judy.
Dana B Martin said… Judy, the paramedic thing has actually come in handy a time or two in the studio. Cant say that I remember any recording sessions breaking out on the scene of a medical emergency, though....I'd have had to run all the way back to the ambulance for my guitar..
Dana B Martin said… Hi, Judy. Thank you for adding me. It's an honor to meet you!
Kirk Thompson Producer/engineer said… Judy, I recently worked with a guy in the studio that has worked with you. His name is Randy Cook. Thought you'd be interested to know.. I just did background vocals and I'm starting to mix his project.
Thanks for making the connection with me.
