Notes From A Thelonius Monk Rehearsal, 1960

Posted on December 5, 2008 at 2:26am 3 Comments

"I don't know who wrote this, but apparently these are notes that came from a young drummer who had a musical 'lesson' with Thelonious Monk sometime around 1960." -Jamey Aebersold

Yes, it's a little hard to decipher in a few spots- sorta looks like the Dead Sea Scrolls. But there are some very cool-ly expressed truths for musicians here- especially on the second page, if you care to take a moment. Dig it!…

About Me:

GREETINGS AND WELCOME! I'm a keyboard player with a specialty in Hammond B3 styles. I live in a wee dell at the foot of Gleng'ry Hill in Nashville where I raise turkeys, occasionally displaying them here on Nashville Music Pros.

The rest of the time I spend in the studios, on stage, or on the bus. I have a blues/RnB/gospel/soul background, which I morph into pop, country, RnR, funk, folk, and jazz. I've played this city's more notable venues, from the Grand Ol' Opry and the CMA Festival to BB King's, Bourbon Street Blues & Boogie, and the Jefferson Street Festival. I have production, songwriting, tracking, singing, arranging and performance experience with a variety of artists. Nuendo, Digital Performer, ProTools and Reason are my DAW's of choice so far.

I love it all. I've had the privilege of performing and/or recording with T. Graham Brown, Steve Cropper, Charles "Wigg" Walker, Bonnie Bramlett, Matt "Guitar" Murphy, Son Seals, Nils Lofgren, Al Green, Lee Oskar, Michael Peterson, Oleta Adams, Johnny Neel, Jo-El Sonnier, Kelley Hunt, the Rev. Jimmie Bratcher, and Bo Diddley, as well as performing with the excellent house band at the historic Starlite Dine and Dance Club.

If you've got a taste for paralyzing detail, fall on by the MySpace page, at . Thankyou for your attention!

Here's some pics of Serenity Hill Studio, owned by Mike O'Neil. Located in midtown Nashville, this is a cool studio with a great vibe and a fine old Hammond, and it's where I've been doing alot of tracking lately.

thanks man. I had fun- you know? just trying to play the SONG. I'd definitely like to play some funky bluesness with your fine hammond sounds and piano stylings next time and get a chance to stretch out. Enjoy the record.. it's been one of my favorites for a long time.
