Uncle Rico is still alive and well...

As I pondered in a blog a while ago, the Uncle Rico character in Napoleon Dynamite longed to go back to 1982 and do things differently in high school.  I guess there's a couple ways you can look at that, but rather than lament that things in our biz are difficult and long for the "good old days" I figure that there is good music to be made and that in itself is of importance.  Many of my friends in the biz, who are world class musicians and audio folks, have taken to making little recordings…See More

...the songs in the player are some of the work I've done over the past 4 years down here. It's been a blessing to work with some really gifted artists and help them out in the quest to get the ideas out of their heads and hearts and on to a digital file... I produced and engineered the tracks. My buddy, JR McNeely did the fine job on mixing. Enjoy... MLT

Uncle Rico Revisits "The Basement Tapes" Part 2

Posted on June 30, 2008 at 3:30pm 0 Comments

In the last post, I wrote about finding an old cassette that had a bunch of really experimental, clever, crazy music that a couple buddies and myself created over 25 years ago. I was lamenting that creating and recording music back then was for the most part much more fun than what I do now because it was honest, passionate, a bit naive and sometimes downright foolish. It was certainly not jaded by the influence of the music business like probably too much of what I do now is. There was no auto… Continue

Uncle Rico's revisit to "The Basement Tapes"

Every now and then I have to take a trip back to my past and remember when music used to be really fun. You know, like when you and your buddies didn't care if everything was perfectly in tune and time as long as it felt right. Maybe the lyrics meant something to you, if no one else, and you thought you were doing what the Beatles did since you only had 4 tracks as well.

I recently uncovered a couple of cassette "masters" that I had done in high school by bouncing between 2 cassette… Continue

I'm in the clique...

"... I'm really slick, I know every trick and I can get a chick 'cause I'm in the clique" (I think that's how the old Todd Rundgren song goes). Anyway, I just set up this page, since my buddy JR McNeely gave me the skinny on this site. I'm sure it will be a life changing experience (we'll maybe not) but at the least, a lot of fun. I've been paying my bills doing music since I was a teen with delusions of being the next Ed Van Halen or David Gilmore, but I've only been in town the last 4… Continue
