December 2009: Picked up my "new" pair of 1963 AKG C12 microphones from Tracy Korby who tweaked them and closely matched the pair. I bought these from a recording engineer who had worked at and purchased them from Columbia Studio in New York; they've been in storage since 1994. Tracy tells me that these are from the pinnacle of AKG manufacturing, all improvements that AKG made are in these two. New matched tubes and sound amazing even on my crappy voice. I'm eager to hear them on the Yamaha C7 piano, and to get response from some studio and rental clients. Mention Nashville Music Pros and I'll reduce rental to $100 (pretty cheap for a $15,000 microphone).
Also added a pair of Emperical Labs Distressors this month with consecutive serial numbers.
November 2009: Anita Cochran's and I finished her new recording. It is available at www.Straybranch.com in CD form and at all the major digital download and online listening sites. Anita and I produced the Tammy Cochran recording "Where I Am" at my studio. Some of those songs can be heard here on my NMP home page. Tammy's project was bought and released by Seanachie Records.
February 2009: Added a Pro Tools HD3 system with two 192 I/O. Of course I still offer (and use) Nuendo and Cubase.--- Also got a PowerMac dual processor 2.7 with 4 GB ram. Nuendo, Cubase and Pro Tools each on Mac or PC.
Guitarist and band leader for the Judds and Wynonna for 11 years, staff band guitarist (along with Kerry Marx and Mark Oakley) on Prime Time Country on TNN, lots of other artists before and since.
I currently own Thompson Music Rental, providing high end vintage and boutique amplifiers, guitars, Wurlys and Rhodes and full back line rental plus recording equipment and sound systems.
I also own Sweetbriar Recording, a Michael Cronin designed and constructed studio in the Hillsboro Village area. It's a medium-small space that sounds excellent and is very comfortable. 32 channel Neve console, Neumann, AKG, Manley, Grace, and lots of other useful tools recording to Pro Tools HD, Nuendo or Cubase. All my clients keep coming back (but I can fit a few more into the schedule).
Oh yeah, I still play guitar once in a while, electric and acoustic.

I had the good fortune to use a Voyager regularly at MTSU, and I'll corroborate Mr. Soper on its oscillator stability and quality components. I was disappointed to find that there was no envelope follower that you could use to track the filter to the external input, so you'd probably want a MuRF for that kind of application. Cheers!

Ken Soper said… - Mark--sorry to miss your post--yes, I have a Minimoog Voyager. Same sound, far more stable than the originals, which means it holds its tune throughout a session. I also have a Moogerfooger MurF and analog delay as well as an Moog Etherwave theremin. Give me enough heads up and I'd be happy to discuss rental.

Not sure if your comment was meant for me. I wish I owned a Minimoog, and I'd gladly bring it in if I had one to spare. Joseph Akins is pretty wicked with his Liberation, if you want a player as well as hardware. Hope all is well!
