Bio Info
Music is an interest for some, for others, it’s a passion right from the start. That was certainly the case for Michael Vance who started playing guitar at age 15. Influenced by Blues greats like BB King, and a diverse list of guitarists including Stevie Ray Vaughn, John Mayer, and Brad Paisley, he practiced religiously. Taken under the wing of some local seasoned musicians, he grew quickly as a guitarist and vocalist by playing at weekly jam nights in the Nashville area.
7 short years later he’s served notice in a town overflowing with up and coming talent that he is not just another “wanna be”. His admirers and accomplishments are starting to pile up quickly.
He’s written songs with hit songwriter Stan Webb (I’m From the Country) as well as Rhean Boyer of Carolina Rain. Nashville music greats Johnny Hiland and Terry Wedding have noticed his talent. Reggie Wooten of the infamous Wooten Brothers saw Michael playing with his group at the Watertown Music and Arts Festival and said he loved the group. But perhaps the most surreal moment of Michael’s young career came when legendary rock star, Robert Plant, lead singer of the group Led Zeppelin happened in to Nashville’s Hotel Preston one night. Michael was playing with his band of close friends and on a break the band came to pay homage to the rock great and get a photo. Robert Plant commented that he not only liked the band but thought they were great. At 22 it doesn’t get much better than that!
Among Michael Vance’s current projects are playing guitar for CoolGroove (a local blues and funk project) and A Cordial Affair (a local rock based group) as well as his own trio band for side gigs. He’s also writing and doing some session work. And yes, you can still catch him playing the Blues at various Nashville jam nights. As he says, “…how can you ignore it, it's the foundation that every genre was built on, without blues, modern music as we know it wouldn't even exist." Michael Ryan Vance
