Preshias made the big move from her native Kentucky to Nashville in early 1991, starting as an intern to the VP of Publicity at BNA Records. From there she was able to develop her professional goals and build a network music industry contacts from coast to coast. At that time, Preshias began writing on a freelance basis for top country magazines (before the advent of the internet!) interviewing everybody from Alabama to ZZ Top.
As her freelance career climbed, she wrangled on-air celebrity interviews for DJs broadcasting live from Emerald Studios during Fan Fair and CMA Week. From there she crossed over into publicity and handled promotion and media relations for the NY Times bestseller "Chicken Soup for the Country Soul." Then she moved on to the next freelance challenge as an assistant to BMI and Dove award-winning songwriter and producer Randy Boudreaux. Working as an A & R assistant and songplugger she learned a new aspect of the business. This, in turn, moved her into the spotlight as a sought-after judge at talent contests, including state and regional levels such as the nationally promoted Colgate Country Showdown.
Currently, Preshias writes a monthly column, "Inside Track on Music Row," that celebrated its thirteenth anniversary of publication in Nashville Music Guide in December 2008. The column also appears on top country and music websites throughout USA, Canada and Europe. She recently held duties as Affiliates Coordinator for the syndicated radio show, Power Source Top 20 Countdown. She has been involved since its inception in 2006 with George Jones University, as Promotions Coordinator until the doors closed to economic reasons.
Preshias and her team of music row professionals recently kicked off www.nashvillemusicbusinesscamp.com. It is seminars on the music business for aspiring singers, songwriters, musicians and people who desire a career in the music business industry.
Preshias continues to work with new and aspiring artists, with Porter - Gentry Productions, working as promotions coordinator and music assistant to Teddy Gentry and Bernard Porter. Their company www.porter-gentry.com and porterconsultinggroup.com provides services, advice and guidance on image, stage presence, individuality skills, music business, artist direction, promotion and career paths.
Preshias - I'd love to get together for a cup of coffee (or in my case iced tea). I'm up in beautiful Bowler WI this weekend doing a show where the high is a nice balmy 5 degrees, and the low (without wind chill will be -12 tomorrow night. Let's get together next week. I should be thawed out by then.
Thanks for the note. I'd enjoy getting us all together soon. When's good? I can't quite locate the card you gave me. I'm afraid I can't even locate my brain after I think it ended up packed in a box that's still in the garage. The good news... My studio is back up and running, and I'm back to being a productive member of society! We'd love to have the two of you over some time soon.
