Profile Information

Occupation:
Pianist-Keyboardist/Educator/Composer/Producer
Company Name:
Robert W Brown Music
About Me:
Late 2009 my family moved to the Nashville area due to an academic music position offered to my wife. Although my wife and son are new to Tennessee, I was raised in Brentwood and began my music career in the Nashville area. I moved away in the 1980's and have since worked in music for the past twenty plus years in many places including Los Angeles, Phoenix, Dallas, Houston, New Mexico, Alaska and Japan. I have worked as a pianist, keyboardist, composer, arranger, engineer, musical director, producer and educator.

As a musician I have been called upon to play a variety of musical styles including jazz, rock, classical styles, music for ballet and modern dance, blues, country, electronic music, and musical theater. I have also worked a number of years as a collegiate and private music educator specializing in piano, theory, and jazz improvisation. Now I look to find my niche in the Nashville music community. So far things have gone well as I have been a steady pianist for The Nashville Ballet and have been a regular soloist and band leader at F. Scott's Jazz Bar.

Please feel free to drop me a line and introduce yourself.

"What jazz scene?"

Posted on August 15, 2008 at 11:00am 3 Comments

I wish to preamble this blog post with my belief is that good music can be most any style or genre. I enjoy and play a wide variety of musical styles. However I am also an advocate of jazz and jazz education. I am also sure I will find out for myself what the jazz scene is in Nashville. But this is an invitation for anyone to share their thoughts on the matter. You don't have to be a jazz artist to respond.

From a distance I have been wondering about the jazz scene in Nashville and… Continue

Moving Back To Nashville

Posted on July 21, 2008 at 11:00pm 11 Comments

Okay. Here I am sitting in my studio contemplating what it will be like to move back to Nashville after twenty-five years of being absent.

I really am looking forward to the adventure. I feel somewhat excited to live and work in the place I grew up. I have so many more tools at my disposal than when I lived there last. Now I have my own family which is largely the reason for moving to the Nashville area. My son will get to experience some of the environment I was exposed to as a… Continue

Wow.....New Rain is beautiful man. Is that your composition? I also play some marimba, and it sounds like something that could work very well if transcribed to a mallet instrument.

Thanks for the kind words, Robert. I don't think I'll be able to make it out to Razz tonight, unfortunately. Wish I could. Hopefully I'll catch you next time though.

Robert, Talked to a guitarist last night, Tiger Fitzuh. He's interested in joining us. Tiger's a great player. I may see if Roy Vogt wants to play bass. Let me know when would be a good day to do this for you in the next two weeks.

Yeah Robert, I was busy with school, but am off for the Summer. I'm thinking we could play some jazz/fusion type stuff. I have some tunes and some charts, as I'm sure you do to. It would be best to have a guitarist and bass player to join us. Any ideas ? I could ask around too. We could play at my place or yours - I have a home studio. Let me know what you think.

Hi Robert, I know it's been a while, but if you have time maybe we can finally meet and play. Let me know if you have time for that.
Best,
Rich
