Rod’s musical career started at the age of 12, with the influence of an uncle who was a guitar and keyboard player. This started him on his path to playing guitar with the hopes of getting into a band. Knowing only guitarists and drummers at school and wanting to complete a band, he decided to play bass. Although he never took formal bass lessons, Rod’s natural musical ability enabled him to learn songs by ear allowing him to learn from some of the great bass players of our time, and giving him a feel that cannot be taught. He now charts and reads Nashville Number System.
From the mid 1970s through the 1990s, he played bass with rock bands touring the Gulf Coast region opening up for various national acts. Wanting the chance to play lead guitar again, he formed Red Hot and Blues in 1990. Rod was a lead guitarist and band leader from 1990-2003. They had 3 releases: “Blues it Up” - 1998, “Waitin on the Hurricane” – 2000 and “News about the Blues” in 2001. Red Hot and Blues toured Norway from 1998-2003 and he continues to perform with various artists between New Orleans and Nashville.
He has opened for national artists such as Ray Charles, Keith Urban, Pete Fountain, K.C. & The Sunshine Band, Midnight Star, Foghat, Blue Oyster Cult, and the Pionter Sisters.
Rod enjoys performing, playing golf, N.F.L. football, writing, and spending time in the studio. No egos or bad habits, punctual and rehearsed. Currently looking for gig/session/tour with established artist or band.
