Local news and new releases from points south: a Murfreesboro update

I'm thrilled to report that a record I got to work on this spring is out and getting some attention! Joey Kneiser and I were called in to do basic tracking and some overdubs for the new Wooden Wand record, Death Seat. James Toth, the singer/songwriter behind Wooden Wand, was until recently a Murfreesboro resident, and he campaigned convincingly to let local players tackle the basics on…See More

New tunes in my player

One of the best things about Nashville Music Pros is that it offers users a place to showcase their work (thanks, Bret!). With that in mind, I thought it would be helpful to add some context to the tracks I've uploaded recently. Simply put, the T. Rex and Velvet Underground cuts are from vinyl transfers I've done, and "We Are Ol' Skool" and "Equinox Festival Overture" are tracks I worked on as part of the MTSU Society for Electronic Music's first compilation, SEM1. I also added more… Continue

Next Big Nashville week is here!

Posted on September 8, 2008 at 8:00am 0 Comments

It's that time again: Next Big Nashville is on! Not sure how much of it I'll get to, but it's all right here on the schedule. One of the first events is the NMP "Get Connected" meet-n-greet tomorrow night at the downtown San Antonio Taco Co, which looks pretty exciting; it's co-sponsored by Gear for Days. Starting Thursday, a slew of nifty panels are set up at the Musicians Hall of Fame downtown, which you can… Continue

I don't know about you, but Tape Op is one of my favorite rags about engineering. They spend ample time on gear and techniques, but they never lose sight of music and the creative process. (It's also awesome that they do free subscriptions, and send a bunch of copies for free distribution to MTSU students!) Though some can be a bit vitriolic, I find their letters to the editor to be pretty consistent in dealing with good questions. One of my favorites from… Continue

About the songs I uploaded

Posted on June 25, 2008 at 11:27am 0 Comments

These tunes are what I did during my last semester at MTSU. I took the studio production class, and I had the good fortune to partner with Gabe Golden from the advanced engineering class. We hooked up with Murfreesboro singer/songwriter Seth Moore and helped him turn some of his tunes from solo endeavors into full-band showcases. Talent attracts talent, and we got to work with a lot of great musicians in the area, not all of whom are represented here (we still have more overdubs to… Continue

Big thank you to everyone who helped me out with the Cubase 5 issue I had last week. Through the network of contacts available here, I was able to quickly find a studio to meet my needs, and had my sessions ready to go on time.

Not only that, the client was very happy with the sessions, and offered me another job mixing the project after we finished the overdubs. Hi-five, Nashville Music Pros!

I did a search for Minimoog on NPR, I think your page came up, so I asked. I'm pretty sure the artist wants the synth only, not a player for this one, but I'll note your suggestion when a player is called for. Thanks for the quick reply.

Erney: Do you own a Minimoog? I have a client working at Oceanway who wants to rent one for tomorrow (Tuesday April 28).

Hey man good to hear from you. Lots of new things are happening. Just started mixing at the French Quarter Cafe in East Nashville. It has got to be one of the most crazy sound systems I have ever ran across. You'll have to come check it out one night!

Hey man.. the box works great! Glad I went with that one. I've mainly used it on the new PT 8. I tryed it out for a few minutes on Cubase Studio 4 and it works quite well with that. I was very suprised. The foot switch is pretty neat. Just one more thing to make me lazy and not actually press a button. Overall it was a heck of an investment!

Love to talk gear with YOU as well. Anytime my friend!

So I wound up not going with the 003 and bought an M-Audio Project Mix with PT M-Powered. After about 2 hours of installing the software about 3 times.... I finally got it up and running and absolutely love it.
