About Me:

I started writing songs at 19 but years earlier, when I was barely a teenager, I saw the film To Kill a Mockingbird. It was not only the first time a piece of art made a real impression me but it was also a beginning - a seed that grew into my deep desire to move hearts and minds. For me there is no higher aspiration.

If a melody or lyric of mine can lift another soul above the daily hum-drum, simply bring a smile to someone's face as they drive to work, I am full. I am doing what I was put here to do.

I do not believe that a musical sentiment must contain great philosophical import to be worthwhile.

My singing voice will never have the soulful sensitivity of Don Henley's or the silky smoothness of Nat Cole's. My guitar chops do not rival the artistry of George Harrison's, David Gilmore's or Larry Carlton's and my words will probably not reach the poetic heights of Joni Mitchell's or Dylan's, but I AM a damn good songwriter and I can still lighten someone's day with a new take on an age old sentiment.

I have zero tolerance for musical snobbery.

A while back I watched an interview with a brilliant jazz musician - someone whose work I had admired. When he began speaking of pop music in dismissive and condescending tones I wanted to knock him out.

As far as I'm concerned NONE of us who are blessed - and I do mean blessed - with the ability to make music have the right to put ourselves above any other music makers past or present.

Bach and Beethoven were without question awesome, but no more so than Miles Davis or The Duke.

Cole Porter, Hank Williams, Jimmy Webb set high standards, but not higher than The Everlys', Holland Dozier Holland's or Carole King's.

Lennon & McCartney blew the lid off of popular music and were directly responsible for inspiring a generation of fledglings like me, but in the larger scheme of things have no greater bragging rights than the Gershwin brothers, Bacharach & David or Fagen & Becker.

I am so fortunate to be one who can make a contribution - even a small one - to the body of music that enriches all of our lives and I am so happy to include as friends other creative spirits - the ones who have hit the heights as well as the ones [like me] who still struggle with daytime gigs to feed nighttime muses.

That's pretty much who I am.

My music spans rock/pop/country/r&b genres. I am very open to collaborations with pretty much anyone, assuming they're serious, experienced and leave their egos at home.

The SONG is the thing, NOT whose name is listed first or who gets a bigger piece of the "pie."

A few times I've coauthored tunes with people who had previously been cheated or taken advantage of. They attempted to use this as justification for trying to take advantage of me: "It was done to ME and now I'm going to do it to YOU...It's what you HAVE to do in this business." My response is "Go write with someone else."

My prose includes bios/onesheets/PR for musicians, copy for print/radio/tv, etc as well as fiction.

I play guitars & keys

My favorite place to be is in the recording studio. Slip some food and water in every few days - I'll just stay here.
