Hey Tom, thanks for getting in touch with me, man. I don't have any shows scheduled around town. Except for Facebook and Nashville Music Pros I really haven't hung out my shingle yet - haven't gotten the old phone book out and called up my old friends in the music biz. I moved here in March and promptly went out on the road with Poco for a string of dates and then we went into the studio to record some tracks for our next album. We have the whole month of May off and I've been preparing the next issue of Not So Modern Drummer and getting ready for the Chicago Drum Show where I have a big booth every year. But I'm ready to get out and play around town so if you hear of anything let me know. What's your email address? I'll add it to my mailing list. I usually send out an email a month about my gigs and NSMD stuff. Your studio looks really cool. I need to come check it out. George 330 338 6035 George@NotSoModernDrummer.com

Thanks for the kind words! The room was designed by Chris Huston, but we don't have a console. We do have a Digidesign C|24 control surface, though! Tons of great outboard gear and an amazing mic collection, too.
Hey Tom. I use a ton of different stuff in the way of pre's. I have a slew of FOcusrite ISA 428's. They make them in different configs, of course. When I got them, the quad set was basically what they had available, and you could run them with the digital out into my 192. So that's how I'm running them. Then on the other side of my rack, I have a Langevin tube pre, a couple of API's, A couple Martechs, a pair of LA-610's and a Westrex.
As to what I use for drums, it really depends. I use the ISA's as utility pre's. They are clean and transparent, IMO. Not quite as transparent as the API's or the Martechs, though. I usually run the kick through a martech, sometimes a snare also. Use the API's for my room mics, matched with lundahl fatheads in front of the kit X/Y, then run through distressors (to "tape"). Snare also runs through an LA-2A typically. Kick also usually runs through my PE 1B (that's been worked over like crazy). Toms and Hat usually go through the ISA Focusrite's, 'cause that's the only set of pre's I have more than two of. But they sound great running through there. I also usually run my x-15 single point stereo ribbon mic as overheads through the ISA's. I use the ISA setting nearly 100% of the time on the 428 pre's. They do have a ton of gain on them, which is great for ribbon mics.

Hope that answers the question!
