So many great combinations: Love pretty much everyone submitted above, and really glad to see the Bill Withers combo's get their due... Soooo Phonky!!!
Two from across the "pond" that I've always loved: Mark King/Phil Gould, and Mark King/Gary Husb…
Touring players: Home from the road for a night or two? Want to hear enough notes to get one canned from any three gigs?! You NEED to see the Power Triplets! We fear no note quota!!! ;-)
Seriously, The Power Triplets are the labor of love/fun brain…
I've been working as a sideman on drum set, touring and recording, for about 20+ years. I also do a fair amount of work as a percussionist (ethnic hand drums: congas/bongos/djembe and lots of shaker/tambourine techniques as well as some orchestral/tuned percussion: marimba/steel pan) and I've worked with a handful of national touring acts:
Sister Hazel
Backstreet Boys
Amy Dalley
Jedd Hughes
Shelley Fairchild
Greg Hanna
Trent Tomlinson
Bucky Covington
I love playing a number of different styles of music and I'm one third of a progressive rock/fusion/jazz trio called The Power Triplets with bassist Trip Wamsley, and guitarist Chris Nix. Our album,"Ta Da!"is available on iTunes/CDbaby, and we recently had a review published in Bass Player magazine. (Big thanks to Brian B! ) Sorry to crow, but I feel extremely fortunate to play with these two amazing musicians (Trip/Chris).
Lately, several of my fellow drumming/sideman buddies have been putting together a monthly event in conjunction with our pal Tracy Broussard and his website: www.roaddawgonline.com We get five or six drum kits setup, do some group playing with guys taking turns on the kits etc. and just sharing ideas/approaches/trouble shooting areas of difficulty in our playing, but more than anything laughing our butts off. It's a great hang, and we welcome all who are interested. Just drop me a line tom@tomhurst.com/352-222-8350 if you'd like to get involved.
On the business side of things, I'm partner in an instrument rental firm: BacklinePro Florida. My partner Sean Thomas runs our operation serving Florida and S. Georgia out of our warehouse in Gainesville, FL (Our primary office/warehouse is in Charlotte, NC), and we're cooperative partners with a firm serving the Biloxi region: Total Backline, owned by Scott Hinson.
Lastly, I'm the co-founder of an indoor drumline: INFINITY Percussion www.infinitypercussion.org Love being around young/inspiring drummers/percussionists as they keep me on my toes, wanting to learn.
Hope to play with many of you on here at some time in the coming months/years. All the best with your respective pursuits.
