Tommy was from Deland FL where he and his late wife Peggy owned Turners Discount Music Center.
Tommy formed a songwriters workshop there under the Guidance of NSAI Maggie Cavender founder who staged several NSAI Seminars in Deland. .Some Nashville Songwriters were part of those seminars such as Bob Dipiero , Woody Bomar and Thomas Cain before Tommy Moved to Nashville TN.
After moving to Nashville Tommy Moderated the Thursday night NSAI Workshops @ Belmont University for NSAI workshop founder Wood Bomar for several years`
Soon Tommy Started @ Bluebird Café Open mic. Mondays for Barbara Cloydd and eventually appeared with known Songwriters @ Sunday Night Showcases and had numerous In The Round Writers Nites and Tommy’s Own 28 Minute Writers Nite performing 11 Original Songs written with above mentioned writers (and other Nashville Songwriters and songs written alone.)
Tommy was a member of a road band named the Hearts and the Mavericks ( comedy group). Thom's Travelers also was a successful road group. Tommy has worked as a single on the road as well at The Black Poodle and The Voodoo Room in Printers Alley Nashville.
He Staged bands for One Nighters Inc. Nashville including the James Gang from AL.
Tommy is a 50 year Life Time member of AFM Jacksonville FL Local 444.
Mel Tillis introduced THE HEARTS group to Nashville Via Printers Alley Bookings. They also appeared @ Hugh Heffner's Miami Playboy Club in the main lounge (as well as The Library.)
They were signed with Lee Magid CA. and United Artists Records.
Tommy and his Late wife Peggy bought and sold old stringed instruments and subsequently bought and sold old interesting items at the Nashville TN State Fairgrounds for 20 years where Tommy continues in that much loved business today but he is semi retired now.
Tommy and Peggy are members of Downtown Presbyterian Church, Nashville TN and he continues there today serving others thru the Sunday and Wednesday Homeless meals..
Tommy is a Certified Presbyterian Lay Pastor .
Their adult son is a homeowner in Newton NJ .
Tommy’s Musical Parents were musicians also and Appeared On Radio Shows performing live the 30's and 40's .
Mom, Janet Turner ,studied Music @ the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music she had a beautiful voice and even sang in Hawaiian.
She sang for years with the Coral Gables FL performing chorus.
Dad , C.A. Turner, played outstanding Hawaiian Guitar and a great guitar teacher well known in Jacksonville FL from 1940 thru 1990, also owning American Music Store there..
Some of Tommy's family instruments were recently donated to Nashville Symphony Orchestra for their Children's classes. The N.S.O. lost most of their instruments to the May 2010 Nashville Floods. Those instruments were received from Tommy by the Symphony October 31, 2010 @ Lipscomb University preceding a concert that day by NSO.
