Occupation:
Drums, Producer
Company Name:
The Downtown Batterie
About Me:
Born in NYC into a Family of musicians. My dad was a drummer my grandfather was a drummer. I guess I had no choice. Moved to Nashville 11 years ago. I had the great fortune to play for Kathy Troccoli for 3 years out of NYC. Through that relationship, I found myself in Nashville working more then I was in NYC! I followed my faith and packed up the wife and dog and made the move! God was ever faithful. I got to town and immediately was working with Cajun Country Artist Joel Sonnier! Yes my first gig in town fresh off the NYC Italian boy boat I'm playing with someone as Southern as it gets! It was awesome. I then continued touring with KT as her music director. I then was blessed by one of my dearest friends in town, David Cleveland, by getting the call to do the Crystal Lewis gig. Let me tell you what a joy that was. On that tour, Avalon was the opening act. I mean are you kidding me! You talk about some singers! I think that year,'99, the band that Dave put together played for everybody that year! What a great experience for me. I must Working for Twila Paris was a special time. Her music had a very profound affect on my life. Then Avalon came into there own and I was asked to be their drummer music director. That lasted about 2 years and I was starting to do some more session work around town. So I took that major leap of faith and stayed home to develop this phase of my career! It was slow going at first, so in my down time I was again blessed to be able to do gig with Point of Grace! The girls were a trip. They were and are awesome to work with. A year into that, the session thing picked up and my wonderful wife and I were adopting a baby girl from China so I decided to stay home and let God do his thing, Well we adopted the sweetest girl from China and simultaneously God chose to bless us with a baby boy through Mercy Ministries! Instant Family! At this point in time I decided to put a little drum room together for tracking some little demo projects at home for some programmer friends who were prompting me to do it. Well, a million dollars later and countless hours reading Mix mag, I have had a full blown tracking room in my home. The studio is called the Downtown Batterie!
My main focus is having incredible drum sounds and tracks for you all at an incredible rate. Making it cost effective to put live drums on demos, custom projects that might not other wise get drums do to costs of big studio, cartage and other rising rates.
It has surpassed any expectations that I have ever had! I've worked on many Master recordings, TV and Film work and lately have been doing a number of video game tracks. I've been blessed to work for:
Keith Thomas, Jonathan Crone, Paul Taylor (Winger), Rod Morgenstein (Winger), Matt Bronleewe, Nathan Chapman (Taylor Swift), Regie Hamm, David Mullen, Paul Mills, Matt Huesmann, Rick Cua, Robert White Johnson, Jason Hayes( Warcraft Video Composer), our very own Bret Teegarden!, Paul Buono, Kent Hooper and a million other folks I'm forgetting cause I'm getting older. I need to buy more memory for my brain! Don't ya wish ya could. I still do sessions out and around. It's great to be with a players in a room!
I have also been producing a bit too! At this point I can do full band tracking pretty effortlessly here. So I'm available for that too. No drum cartage fee's! there's half your budget right there:)
Well that's about it! I Look forward to meeting and hopefully working with..... well all of you! I love what I do and Thanks the good Lord that I can do what I love and support my family!
Blessings to all,

Tony M

Hey Tony,
Thanks for the online friendship! I heard about you via Stephanie Smith (who I used to play bass with before heading to Africa). The drums sound awesome on her recordings!!
