Don't think higher taxes matter - ever wonder why/how the Beatles lost their publishing ???

Posted on June 30, 2009 at 1:17pm 0 Comments

The Beatles assigned their publishing rights to Northern Songs, a company created by Beatles manager Brian Epstein and music publisher Dick James in 1963. The Beatles (particularly John Lennon and Paul McCartney) were soon earning so much money from songwriting royalties, record sales, concert performances, and merchandise licensing that they were losing over 90% of their income in taxes, and they were advised to find a way of receiving their revenue in the form of capital gains rather… Continue

Consumer Interest Groups Ask Obama To Stop Appointing RIAA Lawyers

from the good-luck... dept

With the Obama administration appointing a whole bunch of copyright maximalists to various positions (despite an early indication that perhaps he recognized issues with copyright law), a bunch of public interest and consumer interest groups have gotten together to write a letter to Obama, asking him to… Continue

Stolen Software on "YOUR" Computer???

Posted on March 27, 2009 at 11:00am 9 Comments

So while listening to this rather successful songwriter go on and on about how people are stealing music and how its ruining the Music "Business" it occurs to me that a good portion of the software on his laptop computer is shared, "borrowed" or maybe just stolen; from the Microsoft Office programs such as word and excel to the Adobe programs such as Photoshop and Illustrator- to his latest version of Final Cut or iLife which he uses to update his .mac page- not to mention a bunch of his music… Continue

video by Elizabeth Gilbert: Eat, Pray & Love

Posted on March 19, 2009 at 8:30am 0 Comments

repost:

I got this from one of my friends in the music business. This video by Elizabeth Gilbert, author of the very popular book, "Eat, Pray & Love" is a must see. At a time, when we all in the creative community are seeking support, I think Elizabeth does a great job of helping those who are creative think of ways to cope and persevere. This is posted on Bob Baker's blog site so you have to click on the video in the middle of the… Continue

Sounds like a nice chain. I'll be curious to hear what it sounds like. I ran my c-7 through my API's Saturday. Loved it. Simple enough. With 414's. Nothing fancy, just a nice clean, bright sound.

I'm most curious to hear the vari-mu.

Coffee... that'd mean having a free morning, right? Maybe next week?

Yeah man, sad isn't the word! The problem is that's all fine and good for a studio, but when you're out in front of the fans, they want to see that drummer back there goin' at it...no tricks...no clicks...and no triggers!

Billy Cobham was one of my favorites...ever heard him do Red Baron? I saw him at really small drum clinic in Glan Burnie, MD in like 1993 or 1994, big Mapex endorsement and yes of course, he was AWESOME! Saw Terry Bozio at a drum clinic in Austin, TX in 1995 or 1996 with an entire stage dedicated to him and his equipment, he isn't the drummer he Thinks he is, but Billy....wow! Billy's a truly wonderful person too, sat around a snare drum in the isle giving us the scoop on how he gets his speed and chops and answered our questions...it was great.

Hey Joe...oh wait a pun on an great ole song! But I digress...listen man, any drummer worth their stones that doesn't say those particular drummers didn't influence them in one way or another might be pulling your leg eh? Besides, I paid my country dues long ago!

Seriously though, thanks for the invite. Was listening to your tunes here and really enjoyed what you've got goin' on... Keep the music alive Bro. Blessings.
