“Labeling”
I think it’s interesting that we refer to the big record company as a “Label”! In a spiritual context the word suggests a trite over judgment of a person or thing based on superficial realities. It’s convenient when yer lookin for a jar of Smuckers grape Jelly in a pantry full of mason jars. But I read a book by Anthony Demello where he suggested that once you “label” someone as a republican or a communist or a Christian or Muslim… from that point on you cease…

Bookin the GIG
One of the main reasons rock stars are so short on gratitude is their failure to understand what their agents have to do to book them. If you have the latest hit on the radio or a million dollar ad campaign yer not gonna be too hard to book. But most of us are just short of a couple a side jobs to pay the rent. Inflating your monetary value over the phone is always harder to do than inflating your ego. The job description for a booking agent probably starts with “must…

To an everyday slack jawed gomer, sittin in the cheap seats at yer gig, it’s always impressive to speak of “my manager”. Oh! Boy you have a manager?… you must really be talented! Yea, but what if your talent doesn’t include being a good judge of character? Managers in the music business have the reputation of any big city lawyer. They usually dress alike too. I’m sure the comparison is often deserved but hey, somebody has to be the bad guy so the rest of us can look like heroes. My manager had…

I just attended a show: 10,000 people, 6 artists, last date of a tour in Nashville, 35 dates on the tour in front of over 350,000 people. A chance to make a lot of fans. Everybody could play well (almost everybody). Good songs, nice production, great people, some have sold millions of CD's. But very few memorable moments.
If I was having a meal I would call it fast food... what happened to fine dining? A great meal has a GREAT MAIN COURSE, and great salad, carbs, drink, veggies, etc. But…

Tips for a good performance/ Bryan Duncan
If yer a good liar you can make a performance out of anything frankly. But you want some tips on yer performance? Well I've been singing for a really long time. Done the concert thing in every possible way I can imagine. If you have money enough you can cover yer mediocre presentation with shock and awe. You can drop yer lead singer from the ceiling, spin the drum kit upside down between flash pot detonations. Light the stage like…

My phone rang last night, and when I picked it up, I heard the voice of my good friend and co-writer Rachel Proctor on the other end.
"Have you heard?" she said.
"Heard what?" I said, bewildered.
"We got the first Jessica Simpson single!!!!!!"
I screamed. I mean SCREAMED. So loud that the dog ran and hid under the bed.
Rachel and I have had three songs recorded by Jessica for her new country record, set for release on RCA's Columbia Nashville label - two of…

Great News, my new recording entitled, "The Jerry Tachoir Group - Travels" will be out in July on the Avita Jazz label.
It has been a while since my last recording due to extensive touring. Also, having your own studio definitely makes the recording process a lot slower - because you can!

Hello everyone,
A friend told me about this site and it's very cool. Thought I would share what gear I used on Vincenzo. I just updated my home gear. I'm using a Mac Pro 8 Core tower with 6GB of memory, Motu 8pre interface, Logic Studio.
One the first part of Vincenzo I went direct as many might be able to tell. The guitar is my taylor 414 with a B-band 2.2, I'm not using the mic of the 2.2, Neo Fishman sound hole pickup, Use a (Y) cable into a Baggs Para - Acoustic D.I. and…

I heard a while back that keyboardist extraordinaire Mitch Humphries had passed away.
Can anyone confirm or deny this? He was a wild man, but, oh, what a talent!

thoughts on writing songs
I've spent my share of time tryin to figure out why a song I wrote didn't really get the job done. Second guessing after the fact is why so many artists are schizophrenic.
And then try to write something new. With everybody else's melodies in yer head, and all the things that have been said too many times. I've been asked to "write that song again" by company men who see the success of "Amazing Grace" for instance. Yea, let's just write that one…

On March 11, 1985, our world changed. Naomi Dawn Thurman was born into the arms of two incredibly incompetent parents who wanted to love this child with everything they had to possess. Those two parents learned more from their child than they had to give to her. That's how the world works.
Our world changed many times and through many seasons since.
In July of 2004, our world changed again. Our daughter became a rape survivor. The gift of her first child was a blessing…

I've been hard at work trying to prepare for Hot Apple Pie's new CD. I've been writing non-stop! Last week me, Keith and Kevin got together with
Stan Lynch to play and record some demos that Stan and I wrote. It was a blast! If you're not familiar with Stan he was an original member of Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers. A Rock and Roll Hall of Famer! Not only a great player but a great guy.
We…

I've been to all fifty states fifteen times.I have been to Japan,Korea,Turkey,Italy,Spain,Greece,Greenland and Detroit.
After sixteen years in Nashville, I am starting to accept it.In spite of the bad air,bad power, and lack of culture, there are worse places to live. I have been able(with God's help)to glean a living from this little town in the middle of Tennessee. The people have been friendly and helpful and genuinely kind. I'm not saying the industry is perfect, but it has improved over…

as i mulled over the conversation in the "how to make it" thread, i was reflecting on my own moments of self doubt. the moments when i would compare myself to others around me, wondering if i had what it took to "make it."
it reminded me of a trip i took a few autumns ago with a friend of mine. the story is forever etched in my memory, a gentle reminder of my own… Continue
