"Kindred Spirit: A Tribute Album to Johnnie Cash"

I wanted to share a portion of this Article written by Barbara Shultz, December 1, 2002 because Marty is still a good friend of mine and I was honored to work with Johnnie in his Hendersonville studio when I became

an A Team session player in the early 70s.

I always covered for Little Richard on Piano and Organ if the key was uncomfortable for him.

Song Featured in an Indie Connect Article, Think You Gotta Niche?

Think You Gotta Niche?

By Gigi Swanson

When Mike McLaughlin’s stepdaughter was getting married he couldn’t find a song to capture the right sentiment for their “special” dance at the reception. So he wrote one. Soon the Pennsylvania-based creator of Stepfather of the Bride was receiving requests for the song from DJ’s and other step dads putting in motion a unique niche opportunity.

Currently, McLaughlin’s CD Baby page gets 500- 800 hits per month from people… Continue

What Has This Recession Come To?

I don’t watch a lot of TV, but one show I do like to watch is Nightline on ABC which comes on right after the local news. Earlier this week, Nightline did a story entitled “Face Lift for a Job Lift”. Now anyone who knows me well knows that I am VERY squeamish when it comes to watching surgery on television, especially plastic surgery. I get queasy just hearing people talk about it, much less seeing it on TV. But I had to watch this story (through fingers covering my eyes) because of the reason… Continue

A me without a you.

A new poem I just wrote for my wife. Just for fun.

A piano without keys

A thank you without a please

A violin without a bow

A seed without a sow

A trailer without a hitch

A thread without a stitch.

A window without glass

A lad without a lass

A melody without lyric

A pancake without syrup

A dog without a bone

A teenager without a phone

A tree without leaves

A Christmas without wreaths

A wheel… Continue

"Who Let The KAT Out???"

Frozen in the place I hide

Not afraid to paint my sky with

Some who say Ive lost my mind

Brother try and hope to find

You were always so far away

I know that pain so dont you run away

Like you used to do

Roses in a vase of white

Bloodied by the thorns beside the leaves

That fall because my hand is

Pulling them hard as I can

You were always so far away

I know that pain and I… Continue

Making Shopping a Little More Bearable for Those Who Hate It!

Some people hate shopping. They look forward to it as much as they do jury duty or a root canal. Men especially hate shopping (for clothes, that is...electronics, golf clubs, and cars are probably a different story for them). Well, if you are one of those people who hate shopping, perhaps some of these tips will help make it a more pleasant experience for those times when it is necessary.

Work, and thoughts about it

Well, as I said in an earlier posting, I still believe that there can be Life after a recording career. I'm just having a rough time with it at the moment.

After the last two-plus years of working in retail, I've got to say that I really hate "working for The Man." I used to love my boss... back when I was self employed, doing a job that I loved. Back then I knew that my boss always had my best interest at heart. But working for The Man isn't like that at all.. my current boss… Continue

Spasmodic Dysphonia: Definition, Causes, Diagnosis, Treatment Options and What A Vocal Coach Can Do

I was recently invited to a conference on Spasmodic Dysphonia (known as SD) sponsored by the Vanderbilt Voice Center here in Nashville, Tennessee. Attendees included voice specialists and teachers as well as sufferers of SD who had traveled distances to get current information about their mysterious and frustrating voice disorder. Instead of being a dry, boring series of speeches, it was… Continue
