Everbody Loves Raymond - Keeping It Real!!!

December 28th On the show Everybody Loves Raymond, Ray had ruined his dad jazz albums 30 years earlier by moving them to close to the furnace. Ray decides to replace them with CD versions of the lost albums. His dad won’t have it or embrace the technology. They finally listen to the cds then Debra tells him let’s hear the albums. They put them on, needle drops, stactic, static, pop, pop, Jazz music starts, dad smiles and says now that’s music.

I have a plug in from izotope called Vinyl. I use it to put that pop, scratch, etc. back in. It was free. Boy, I just keep fitting that stereotype, don't I?

It's still out there. I've talked about this before but it warrants revisiting. I remember in my teens going home from my day job, listening to WKDF which was a rock station at the time, I'd hear wihout fail, Pink Floyd, Rush, Bob Seger and of Boston. Usually it was Boston's Foreplay/Longtime from their first album. In the middle of the song, when it breaks down to B-3 and wind noise, you'd hear the static and pops on the turn table, I always felt this was part of the song. Fast forward to radio going to CD, same station, same song but something was missing. It didn't have the same meaning or take me to te same place... Am I nutz???

Mellencamp mastered his last album to vinyl them to CD for "The Sound". Lately I've been mixing through a Studer A80 back to Pro Tools to get the analog sound without the expense of several rolls of tape.........

I am so happy to see someone else reference that episode. I saw it too, and have had it in the back of mind ever since.

Sometimes the medium is the atmosphere.
