If two engineers were doing a project, one was given let's say Blackbird with acces to all the gear and the mics and Pro Tools HD cutting @ 192KHz / ans the other was given a Fostex Casette 4-track machine and one SM57 and a couple or Radio Shack mics, Who will make the better record????????????

Mark,
Have mercy! Please explain the last comment. I feel like I just landed in a really foreign airport.

It's like the sound of one hand clapping in the forest and there's not a woman around to tell me I'm wrong, but am I??????

I had an album I assisted on many moons ago called UNLISTENABLE by the next producer. Now this producer is a MultiGrammy winning LA engineer that I really "Lucked" I mean liked his work. Then I heard the new mixes of the tracks he cut.... Wow, I guess it really is about what people think is better. Maybe he should remember what "WAS!!!" I mean got him here...........

So, how do you know which one has better ears? Is that something decided before hand and do the results speak for themselves... or ... is the quality in the ear of the beholder. I have often been amused at what people think is "better."

True, but not the point. Once again I assumed the source would be good and the same for both situations......... How many times have you heard, why does my guitar sound like plastic? Well, it is. I've captured your guitar just the way it sounds in the room...........

One thing left out, who has the better source. If you had a crappy band with craapy instruments at Blackbird you're polishing a turd but if you've got A-list guys and the 4-track you'll do just fine.

Yep, Look at me go, I'm still doing it, somebody stop me!!!! Actually the post was the question to make you think. Then I posted the answer. Did you read the post or do you just look for things to complain about???
