Hi everyone,
My wife Dee Dee made me aware of Lisa Kent's latest
update about Chris' ongoing fight with his cancer. Because of treatments
and the side effects and his deteriorating health, Chris will be unable
to tour in 2011. Since he's been not only fighting his cancer but
amazingly still working on the Road with Lorrie Morgan, Melinda
Doolittle, and others this will create a significant financial hardship
on the Kent family right when they need to focus on Chris and his
recovery. He will still be able to do local work and sessions, but he's
having to deal with neuropathy in his hands (all of us players can
imagine how awful that must be).
I wish I could produce several
projects this year and hire Chris to play bass. I'm not that rich-but
then I had an idea. What if I could "hire" Chris and send him and his
family a small amount each month? If enough musicians, producers,
writers and Artists do the same we could all replace his income a little
at a time. After looking at my family finances and searching my heart,
I'm going to commit to "hire" Chris and pay him $50 a month for the next
year. That's 1 private bass lesson or 1/4 of a gig or session. I can
afford to help a friend and fellow bassist that I dearly love and
respect at least that much!
I know this is a lousy time for the Biz
and everyone's hurting, but if 50 people can do the same it replaces
Chris' touring income. If 100 people can pledge $25 a month it does the
same. If 250 people can pledge $10 a month (that's one week at Starbucks
for me).....well, you get the idea.
Follow your heart and see if
this makes sense to you. I hope I haven't offended anyone by getting in
touch with you-I just know we've all had some contact with Chris and
know what a great guy, faith-filled Christian and superb musician he is.
Pass this on to anyone you think might be interested in helping out.
God Bless You and Your Families and Merry Christmas!
Roy
