Lately, a lot of artists I’ve worked with have emailed me, saying how great the things we developed in their rehearsals are working. That gets me so excited!
Just last night I heard from a folk singer who had me come and work with her band. They are ramping up for a big show the end of this week and are in rehearsals.
In the meantime she did a solo gig at a singer/songwriter venue. She said the only thing she did differently that night was to look at people. And she said that eye contact made such a difference that people came closer to sit near her, stayed for the whole set, bought more merchandise and stayed after to talk to her!
She was blown away. Now she understands how much people want to be seen. That was all!
I can’t wait now to hear about the reaction she gets from her audience when she starts implementing the moments we created with her songs and her band!
The power of that eye contact is huge. I want to encourage you this week to just try that one thing. Look people in the eye when you are singing. Don’t just skim over them or look at the back wall. Really look at them.
For some of you this may be tough because it makes you nervous. The sooner you get over that, the better, ‘cuz every time you play you have the chance to make new fans.
Don’t waste it! In the meantime, check out the blog ‘Why Don’t They Love Me?’ from the one and only Tom Jackson!
