LUNCH WITH CHARLIE WALKER

In 1983 I received a call from a producer looking for the song:  Little League In Heaven for Charlie Walker.  Wayne said he had heard the song a few years back after Orval

Prophet, the Canadian Hall of Famer, recorded the song in 1981, And he thought then, if he ever has a use for that song he would love to use it.

 I sentWayne a cassette tape and he passed it on to Charlie.  On the tape was another song entitled:  Thank God For The Roses.  Charlie listened to the tape and when he heard Thank God For The Roses, he wanted to recorded it.  Charlie said he was having some personal problems and the song had a message that offered comfort for those problems.  Charlie went into the Soundtrack Studio in Nashville in 1984 and recorded both songs for Mission Records.  A 45rpm and a dual cassette package was released containing the two songs.

 In April of 1984 Charlie came to Huntsville, AL to promote his newest recordingsat our release luncheon held at the Ramada Inn songs.  Charlie promised, my co-writer, Billy Stone and I that when he sang the songs on the Grand Ole Opery he would invite both of us to Nashville.  For some reason this never happened with Charlie.  I never learned what happened, but I surmised that difficulties came up and very little promotion efforts were done.  I am now learning that most people are unaware that Charlie had ever recorded these songs.  That is why if refer to these records as both the "last" and the lost recordings of the late and great Charlie Walker

I am very fortunate to have spent some time that day, with Charlie Walker and to have co-written two songs that Charlie liked enough to record.  Spending that Thursday afternoon, April 19, 1984, with Charlie Walker was a great pleasure and honor for me.  I consider it to be the highlight of my songwriting career.
