I have what I call an "Opry Dad."
That would be the one and only Snuffy Smith. For those of you who do
not know who he is, he was Brenda Lee's bass player in the band called
The Casuals. He also worked with Tex Ritter, John Ritters Father and
also toured with Little Jimmy Dickens of The Grand Ol Opry just to
mention a few of his many, many credits. About two years ago Snuffy and
I met. Neither of our lives have ever been the same. Me longing for a
Dad and a Father figure and Snuffy looking for a reason to get back
into Country Music. It's hard to say if Snuffy adopted me or I adopted
him. All I know is, I consider him like my Dad and love him very much.
He has been very, very good to me and having him a part of my life has
been such a tremendous blessing to me. The reason I write this blog is,
about six months ago when my CD broke in Australia and Japan, I told my
co producer Doc Martin that I had fears of something happening to
Snuffy before my CD could actually take off. I couldn't picture moving
forward at top speed with this project without Snuffy being a part of
it. Doc reassured me that all is in The Lord's hands and his will, will
be done whatever that may be. Two weeks ago, Snuffy had a double heart
attack. It was very scarey for me but with a lot of prayer and great
doctors at Centenial Hospital in Nashville, last Friday, Snuffy came
home. Today we celebrated The Fourth of July together with my children,
Doc Martin and Snuffy's wonderful family. The food was great, the
family and friends were wonderful but most of all, Snuffy is here, well
and alive. I am so grateful this Fourth of July to have been able to
share it with Snuffy.
I love you Snuff!
Mandy
